EVERYTHING I DO (I DO IT FOR … BASEBALL)!
Look into my eyes, you will see, what you mean to me. When the Dreamers searched their hearts and their souls you didn’t have to tell them it’s not worth fighting for, because as the playoffs near, everything they do…they do it for BASEBALL!! Would Humber tell Credit that it’s not worth fighting for? Or would Credit respond that they can’t help it, there’s nothing they want more? Would Rouge take Don as they are or would Don give it all and sacrifice?
If you wanna know the results…
You’ll have to keep reading to find out!
HUMBER RIVER HUMDINGERS vs. CREDIT RIVER COMRADES
There’s an old saying in Texas, maybe in Tennessee, that says, “Fool me once, shame, shame on….you. But foolmecan’tgetfooled again…” and so here were the Comrades who had seen the Humdingers deliver consecutive losses on their short wave radio. Here was hoping that the Credit River squad would sing another tune. But this game like the others was filled with a similar refrain. The Humdingers hummed early on the strength of a 5/5 game for both Rachel Small and Annelies Cooper and they jumped out in front. The Comrades, bolstered by a legion of subs including Krysta Williams, Jan Braun, Kelsey Patton, and Lisa Wong, played strong defence despite struggling to get their troops to the western front. Humber, however, had other plans and like Nicki Minaj they were starting to complain about being in the #2 spot on the charts, it was time to take down Travis Scott’s Astroworld!
It was Devin Clancy who then went to work. Despite his formal appeal to be credited with a cycle, Devin Clancy fell a home run short of the feat notwithstanding an incredibly impressive evening that saw ole number 420 hit two singles, a double, and a triple while scoring three times for the Humdingers! In the end Humber had won 10-6, pulling into a tie for 2nd place with Don!
ROUGE RIVER BLUSH vs. DON RIVER VALLEY CATS
Bats took a twirl, pitchers began to hurl, and hair began to curl as the Rouge River Blush and Don River Valley Cats celebrated long-time Dreamer Merle Davis’s last regular-season game. Cheers echoed from the Sky Dome, sending off Merle on her way to a PhD in Minnesota, but those cheers of camaraderie soon turned to steely-eyed stares from Blush and bared fangs from the Cats as the game started.
Strong offense left the Blush with a vibrant but subtle foundation, giving them a comfortable cushion of runs. Joseph Bautista (Vice-Chair of the Merle Davis fan club) cranked out 2 singles, 2 doubles, and a triple, sending runners around the bases, and Andy Smith (Club Secretary) launched a home run over the field.
The Cats answered with a triple from Andrew Stokes (Ex-Officio-Member-At-Large), and solid base hits and balletic defense by Laura Pin (Club Treasurer), bringing them within cat-clawing distance of Rouge. Sub Gita Madan (Head of Continental Operations) plucked pop flies from the air with grace and ease.
Though the teams reached a short stalemate with a tie score, the Blush’s defense was too strong. Jenny Chan (Chair Emeritus) snagged a fireball of a shot to second base. Sam Banishashemi (Head of Regional Recruitment) left the Cats star-struck with an amazing out at third. And Craig Fortier (Co-Founder and Member for Life) stylized with teammates to make a double play that was a silky hair’s-breadth away from being the League’s first triple play.
It was a 16-12 blowout perm for the Blush, leaving them sitting pretty as we head into the last game of the regular season play.
