GARRISON CREEK GAMMA RAYS STUNNED (0-1-0)
The Gamma Rays played only one of the two weeks, sitting out to recharge in Week 4, but in their only game during the round up, they played an exhilarating back-and-forth matchup against the [Moulin] Rouge River Riff Raff! The Riff Raff stunned the Gamma Rays dropping the greens by a score of 15-14. However, there were some notable highlights from Gamma Ray players including Kirsten Dick and Andy Smith who both clubbed home runs and contributions from rookies Gab Laurence, Ruthie Titus, Soren D’Alimonte, and Chris Yates. Samira Banihashemi and Jo Jefferson debuted on the season – and Nat Saavedra, Lainie Basman, Victoria Barnett, and LJ Robinson were electric in the field.
CREDIT RIVER COSMONAUTS LIFT OFF (1-0-0)
The Cosmonauts were the other team to have an off week during this round up, spending some time on the International Space Station during Week 3. But in Week 4 they orbited the Humber River Hype in a sky-high affair. Led by stellar defence and hits that landed in all corners of the galaxy, Credit River burst out to a 17-5 lead before crash landing in the 4th inning when faced with a 9 run rally by the Hype. But the Cosmonauts, like Sandra Bullock in the 2013 hit Gravity, hung on for dear life, and came away with an 18-14 victory. Special mention to Annelies Cooper who played excellent defence at first base in the last inning, to rookies Seb Higgins and Kat Kleine who circled the bases at warp speed, to veteran Darren Puscas who made his 2022 Credit River debut, and to Jenny Chan who once again sported their famous double zero “00” jersey!
[MOULIN] ROUGE RIVER RIFF RAFF GO GITCHY GITCHY YAH-YAH (2-0-0)
The Riff Raff rambled about the diamond looking to see what kind of loot they could take home and boy were they in for a treat. In Week 3, the reds danced their way to a 15-14 victory against the Garrison Creek Gamma Rays and then in Week 4, they performed an encore by holding on to defeat the Goin’ Goin’ Don! by the exact same 15-14 score. With those two one run victories, Moulin Rouge River is getting a reputation for thinly slipping by their opponents, by winning all three of their games this season by 1 run! Some excellent defence by Oskar Eliashevsky, Fianna Dirks, Claudia Vergara, and Ted Steenburgh have spurred the Riff Raff to theatrical heights! A first home run for Kevin Nguyen and the continued excellence of Matt Koscic, Leah Silverman, Molly Fremes, Shannon Dunham, and Claudia Calabro helped to bolster the team – who saw debuts by Stu Schussler and Alie Hermanutz in successive weeks!
DON RIVER GOIN’ GOIN’ DON TO THE INJURY RESERVE LIST! (0-2-0)
The Don River squad saw some big swings in their roster over the round up weeks, but played spirited games despite these set backs. In Week 3, the Goin’ Goin’ Dons! were overcoming with the Hype from Humber River and dropped that game by a stunning 19-9 score. But in Week 4, they played a tense matchup with the Moulin Rouge River Riff Raff who squeaked out a 15-14 victory against the surging Dons (helped by super subs Joseph Bautista and Rees Nam). Don River saw a number of players pull up with slight injuries and they are hoping to take Week 5 off to recuperate. But don’t despair, we saw home run blasts from Gunjan Chopra (in her first ever game!) and Phill Morgan (who is on an early tear!) and the excellent play of Gita Madan at first base, rookie Jason Carmichael, the terrific tandem of TG Wong and Tamara Daley, the speedy Pony (aka Laura Windhorst), the deft hitting Laura Shepherd, the steady hand of Michelle Kidd as captain, the excellent continued play of Krysta Williams and the bursts of speed by Kaela Sanborn-Hum! Don River isn’t goin’ goin’ to be down for long!
BELIEVE THE HUMBER RIVER HYPE! (1-1-0)
Humber River was the only team to experience a little from column a and a little from column b during the wrap up weeks. With a resounding 19-9 victory over Don River in Week 3 they experienced an 18-14 loss to the Cosmonauts in Week 4. The Hype have been led by the master pitching and hitting of Terrance Luscombe, despite a late game injury in Week 4, and have saw Brittany Beaton club a birthday special bases loaded RBI single up the middle scoring on an excellent line drive by Manjeet Bedi! First-year captain Corey Snelgrove constructed a powerful lineup that saw Brianna Greaves, Sarah Weinberger, Syl Aucoin, Nicole Bond, and Logan Bodera all contribute important hits to build the hype! But perhaps no player in Field of Dreamers’ history plays to the hype than Johann Juarez who made his season debut in Week 4 and started it off with a stunning home run to opposite field!
