Umpiring – Learners and Volunteers

If you’d like to help the league and/or learn more about baseball, this is a great opportunity! Even volunteering for one game goes a long way. Just show up early or stay behind after your game one week. Umpires help other players focus on play and keep the flow of the game going. You don’t need to be an expert at baseballing to be an umpire. If you want to learn or be mentored we can make that happen! This year the schedule has four slots per game: 2 ‘experienced’ and 2 ‘learning’ players. If you are learning, we can have you shadow and get you in a spot to succeed and make some easier calls while helping keep track of outs/runs/etc.

As a reminder, we use the same Guiding Principles when communicating with umpires as we do with other players in the league. The umpire’s decisions are final, and we can talk between innings or after the game for clarification.

Sign up here to umpire AND to learn! The schedule is here. If you see an empty slot in a time that works for you, put your name down.

2022 Sub Registration & Draft Day

Thank you everyone for your interest in the 2022 season! Our registration filled up more quickly than we’ve ever experienced! We’re excited to launch the new season and can’t wait to have you join for our draft day!

Draft day

Draft day is a live event where we sort our teams into the five “houses” or teams of the league, each named after a watershed in the Toronto area.

This year’s draft day takes place on April 11 at 7PM ET. We’ll release more information as the day approaches.

Substitute players

This year’s registration filled up more quickly than we’ve ever experience in our league history! We want to thank everyone for your interest and enthusiasm! After this year’s registration, we’ll be reflecting on ways to make our registration process more transparent.

If you want to play but missed registration or simply want a lighter commitment, you can join our substitute players list. Learn more about subbing for the Field of Dreamers and fill out the form here.

2022 Season Registration

Are you ready dreamers? It’s our fifth season of softball as Field of Dreamers and we’re so excited to celebrate this monumental milestone with you.

Right now, the coordinating committee is processing registrations (with advance registration for last year’s players), reflecting on last year’s COVID-19 protocols and other league rules, getting the site ready for a new season, and preparing for draft day!

Registration is now open for new players! We have 19 new roster sports available in 2022! If you can’t make the full season commitment, we highly recommend you add your name to the subs list. We always need subs!

2021 Field of Dreamers Championship

Lessons on Building a Dynasty

And then it was October. The leaves were not yet falling, but the rain sure was as the Field of Dreamers met under the lights of SkyDome for once last week of the 2021 season. Players streamed into Trinity Bellwoods coming off of watching the Blue Jays destroy the Baltimore Orioles to keep their post-season hopes alive, only to be heartbroken mere moments later when the Boston Red Sox eliminated Toronto’s team for the season. But attention quickly turned to the Bronze and Gold Medal matches at hand.

Would the Don River Don Don Revolution get their initials etched on the arcade game wall of fame or would the Humber River Habaneros be the ones to top the Scoville scale? Would the Rouge River Rainbow Rebellion finally admit to and accept their revolutionary destiny or would the Credit River Cuties definitively qualify as the hottest team in the league (sorry Spicy Ps!)?

If you wanna know the results (beyond the foreshadowing in the title above)…

Playoffs 2021 – Round 2

Waning Moon Autumn Baseball

With both the moon cycle and the 2021 season waning in tandem, the Field of Dreamers gathered at SkyDome for the penultimate weekend of the softball season. In the first game, Rouge River and Don River planned to add a chapter to the long political theory debate on rebellion and revolution. Would the Rainbow Rebellion go on to connect with the Cuties, the lovers, the dreamers, and me? Would the Don Don Revolution be the ones to be left dancing on their own with a chance at the Gold Medal Game?

In the evening tilt, the storyline was of course which of the two teams’ seasons would come to an end (making them hosts of the 2021 Championships) and which would go on to the Bronze Medal Game? Could the Humber River Habaneros spice up their lives with one more week of play? Would it be the Garrison Creek Gargoyles flying higher than an eagle to land into the finals?

If you wanna know the results…
