?️‍? THE JUNE 24tH INAUGURAL PRIDE GAME

On a night where the Field of Dreamers out sparkled the glamour of the 24/7 frisbee rave, a rainy and gloomy day soon turned into a hearts-a-fire flame fest!  Dressed to impress, the Dreamers strutted their stuff along the baselines in sequins, glam, short-short-short shorts, glitter, and all other sorts of fine haberdashery.  And, as though the Fab Five themselves decided to elevate the field of play, the Dreamers matched their new looks with fierce defence, fabulous hits, and futuristic finesse.  As the Queer Eye TV screen was tuned to the game, all were anticipating whether Karamo would unearth the loving child that lives inside the unflappable Comrades? Or would Jonathan give the Valley Cats the grooming they always knew they deserved?  Would Bobby remake the Humber defence into something elegant but hip? Or would Antoni & Tan help the Blush bring out their delectable charm?

You’ll have to keep reading to find out whether this Queer Eye’d makeover took form…

DON RIVER VALLEY CATS vs. CREDIT RIVER COMRADES

A stoic orchestral march heralded the arrival of the most glorious Credit River Comrades to the ballfield on Sunday, and the Don River Valley Cats came ready to bat their opponents like a ball of yarn. The Cats took an early lead, lapping the bases like they were a saucer of milk, but the Comrades trusted in their collective strength and came roaring back. Both teams did their best to keep the score low, playing impressive defense. The Cats’ Kate Uffelman made graceful plays at third base and Niloofar Golkar snagged a nail-biting pop fly in the outfield, but it was matched, and then some, by the Comrades. Jill Aoki-Barrett was as stout as the walls of the Kremlin, halting hits at shortstop, while LJ Robinson racked up kompromat on the competition, stopping runners at second base and short. Credit River then called in their debts and nationalized the field when Gita Madan smashed a powerful line drive that netted her two RBIs and Yogi Acharya brought everyone home to the motherland with a Grand Slam!! Both teams’ hearts were filled with Pride as the sun set with a 15-8 win for the Comrades (Andrew Stokes, Don River Valley Cats).

ROUGE RIVER BLUSH vs. HUMBER RIVER HUMDINGERS

Oh. My. God.You. Look. Amazing. Were the six words that defined this ornate affair between the bedazzled Humdingers and the haute-couture Blush. It was all love is love as the teams took the field for their first date of the season.  And these teams hit-it-off with some hot and steamy play under the romantic backdrop of the ball field light towers with the smell of love ganja in the air.  A lurid affair, the Blush came out forever gorgeous with a five run first inning. But the Humdingers wouldn’t be thrown off tune and they too pumped out the volume as their hair blew in the wind rounding bases and scoring runs.  In the gleam of the light towers, Annelies Cooper’s sequins reflected off the uniforms of Blush babes Terrance, Sarah, and Lainie, resulting in a magical display of shimmering that made all comers ask, maybe she was born with it? As the disco fever was at it’s highest pitch among the Humber squad, the Blush was concealing all their holes on defence with stellar play.  Jessica Duarte and Jo Jefferson nonetheless scampered home to bring the game within an eyeliner’s reach of victory….but alas, by the final inning Jenny Chan flexed some muscle crushing a single into the outfield where the Blush used the remaining dust to give a perfect smoky eye….Blush 16 – Humdingers 11 (Craig Fortier, Rouge River Blush)
